Completed this short book entitled “Who Moved My Cheese” (WMMC) by Spencer Johnson. It’s a parable involving four characters, two mice and two “tiny people” (humans the size of mice) who live in a maze and are faced with a problem when their Cheese goes missing. The main point of the book highlights the process of Change. Each of the four characters represents a type of behavior inherent to a person based on how they deal with changes in their lives.

The book will probably only take one hour to read front to back, but more importantly will change your perceptions of yourself and how you see those around you. It is such a powerful book that delivers such a powerful message on one of the constants in the world we live in.

Johnson presents characters which are easily identifiable to people we meet in real life and makes it easy for anyone to read. My absolute favorite part of the book is the little Cheese Messages that are left along the walls of the maze.

I highly suggest this book for anyone at any point in their lives. Definitely a must have.

RATING: 5/5

Finished another book today. “Crush It! – Why Now is the Time to Cash in on Your Passion” by Gary Vaynerchuk. This is more of a motivational and informational primer to get you started on your own personal brand using online social media tools to help reach a broad audience.

We get to learn about his life growing up and how he’s “Crushing It” everyday building upon his wine business and how he used tools like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to broadcast his message to millions of users around the world. We never really get the definition of “Crush It” but somehow you develop the meaning of it.

The book is in a very casual non formal style of writing. A short read at only 142 pages. Comes only in hardcover, although he is coming out with an updated version in audiobook format I believe. I wish it was longer, but really, it was just right. I thought the retail price was a bit steep: USD 19.99 and CAD 25.99.

All in all the author is very honest and open to share such information in this book with everyone. His underlying message to “Crush It” as much and as hard possible doesn’t necessarily require you to follow his word to the letter, rather if you apply his idea and notions about the work required to become an entrepreneur, we all may have a shot to stand for ourselves. It’s definitely a wake up call for those who want to achieve their dreams in this day in age with the modern tools to do it. Vaynerchuk and his message have quickly become an icon for the social media world.

RATING: 4/5

Just finished reading “Naked Economics, Undressing the Dismal Science” by Charles Wheelan. A very interesting and straightforward read to get you into the world of Economics. This book has no annoying graphs or charts that you would find in many texts, just straight up concepts with many relevant observations in the world today. If you hated studying economics in college or university, you will definitely find this interesting as it presents the issues rather than drawing up supply and demand curves.

For those not in business or have never gone to the college / university route, it is still a great read. Many arguments people make in this day and age can be explained quite simply after understanding the concepts of basic economics. If there was any book which made understanding this dry subject interesting, this is it. I even encourage those in high school to read it; get an edge on your teachers and classmates with these powerful concepts and tools!

Many topics are covered in this book including wealth and poverty, gender relations, environmental, discrimination, politics, to name a few. Wheelan adds his own wit and charm to the subject making a drab subject a delight to understand.

“But don’t take my word for it…”

RATING: 4.5/5
